अंतरराष्ट्रीय धार्मिक स्वतंत्रता पर अमेरिकी आयोग (यूएससीआईआरएफ) ने भारत समेत 14 देशों को ‘विशेष चिंता वाले देश’ (सीपीसी) के रूप में नामित करने की सिफारिश की है। हालांकि आयोग के कमिश्नर गैरी एल बाउर और तेनजिंग दोरजी ने इससे असहमति जताई है। दूसरी ओर भारत ने इस रिपोर्ट पर कड़ी प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए इसे खारिज किया है।

भारतीय विदेश मंत्रालय ने कहा, ‘यह संगठन विशेष की सोच है, जिसकी भारत को परवाह नहीं है। आयोग की रिपोर्ट आने के तत्काल बाद भारतीय विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता अनुराग श्रीवास्तव ने इसे पक्षपाती और विवादास्पद बताया।’ उन्होंने कहा, ‘भारत के खिलाफ इस आयोग की टिप्पणियां नई नहीं है। पहले भी इस आयोग ने ऐसी बातें की हैं, लेकिन आज जब पूरी दुनिया कोरोना से जूझ रही है, तब इसकी यह हरकत दिखाती है कि वह और नीचे गिर गया है। ऐसे वक्त में गलत व्याख्या करने की इसकी आदत नए स्तर पर पहुंच गई। इस प्रयास में यह अपने कमिश्नरों को ही नहीं साध पाया।’

सूची में वे देश हैं जहां धार्मिक अल्पसंख्यकों पर अत्याचार बढ़े हैं। यूएससीआईआरएफ ने इसमें नाइजीरिया रूस, सीरिया और वियतनाम और भारत का नाम भी जोड़ा है। वार्षिक रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि 2019 में भारत में धार्मिक स्वतंत्रता की स्थिति में तेजी से गिरावट आई।
